According to Reuters, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Russia’s invasion of his nation was only the start, and that Moscow had intentions to invade neighboring countries.
« All countries, like us, believe in the victory of life over death, they must fight together with us. They must help us because we are first in line. And who will be next? » Zelensky said in a video message later in Friday.
His comments were in response to a senior Russian military officer who was cited by Russian news media as saying that Moscow wanted full control of southern Ukraine and access to Transnistria, a separatist Moldovan territory, with Russian soldiers.
This would choke off the whole Ukrainian shore and prevent Russian soldiers from entering hundreds of kilometers west of Mykolaiv and Odessa.
Gen. Rustam Minekayev’s assessment of Moscow’s intentions in Ukraine was one of the most precise, implying that Moscow has no plans to cease its attack anytime soon.
According to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, Minekayev’s remarks demonstrate that Russia is no longer concealing its ambitions.
Moscow, according to a Twitter post, « has previously admitted that the’second phase’ of the war’s purpose is to seize eastern and southern Ukraine, not to destroy the fictitious Nazis. Imperialism at its finest. »
Despite Russia’s lofty intentions and claims of taking Mariupol, British military intelligence indicated today that Moscow’s forces had made little headway in the last 24 hours.
According to a daily update from the British Defense Ministry, Ukraine’s counterattacks continue to thwart Russia’s efforts to take the strategic port city.
Ukraine’s budget deficit is already between $4 billion and $5 billion, and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal indicated in Washington that Kyiv is requesting help from all partners in the next months.
Additional options to assist Kyiv were explored by Schmigal and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Meanwhile, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said late Friday on his Telegram channel that Chechnya is sending hundreds of more volunteers to Ukraine.
At the same time, Zelensky verified that the allies were finally supplying weaponry to Kyiv, after France and Spain reported that military equipment had been transferred.
