Al-Ahly Saudi Club secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Al-Taawoun in a thrilling encounter during the sixth round of the Roshan League Championship in the Saudi League. The match took place at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium and was marked by significant moments.
The early minutes of the game saw Al-Ahly taking the lead with a splendid header by Abdel Basset Hindi in the 4th minute. This goal was set up by a precise cross from Algerian Riyad Mahrez. In an unfortunate turn of events, Al-Taawoun defender Walid Al-Ahmad accidentally scored an own goal in the 23rd minute, extending Al-Ahly’s lead.
However, Al-Taawoun showed resilience and managed to pull one back just before half-time. Joao Pedro found the net in the third minute of stoppage time with an excellent finish after a well-delivered cross.
The second half brought more excitement as Al-Taawoun equalized in the 51st minute. Musa Barrow capitalized on a defensive mistake by Al-Ahly to level the score. Al-Ahly wasn’t to be outdone, and Frenchman Alain Maximin unleashed a missile-like shot in the 67th minute to give his team the lead again.
The game had its share of late drama with Barrow seemingly scoring a third goal for Al-Taawoun in the 93rd minute. However, the goal was disallowed after video technology review. In the 94th minute, tempers flared, resulting in a red card for Abdel Basset Hindi from Al-Ahly and Alvaro Medran from Al-Taawoun.
The match concluded with Al-Ahly emerging victorious, winning 3-2. This victory propels Al-Ahly to third place in the Saudi League table with 15 points from 6 matches, while Al-Taawoun currently occupies fourth place with 13 points.
